Low fat looks set to be one of the best performing health and wellness claims in staple foods in Finland over the forecast period in terms of retail volume growth and value sales growth at constant 2023 prices. Products with this positioning should continue to gain ground in a number of categories, as consumers are increasingly conscious that being overweight or obese can put them at greater risk of developing a host of serious illnesses, including heart disease, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and various cancers.
The right to display the Heart Symbol on packaging will continue to be a key objective for many staple foods manufacturers in Finland when developing new products and reformulating existing ranges over the forecast period. The Finnish Heart Association awards this symbol to packaged foods deemed to be healthier choices, primarily with regard to how much fat and sodium they contain, though sugar and fibre content are also qualifying criteria in some cases.
Dairy free staple foods is expected to post solid growth in total volume sales and value sales at constant 2023 prices over the forecast period.
