One of the main factors driving growth of health and wellness staple foods in the forecast period is expected to be increasing consumer awareness of the dangers to health of the overconsumption of certain ingredients. As a result of the country’s Law of Food Labelling and Advertising, which came into force in 2016, Chile has adopted stark black and white labels on packaging aimed at educating consumers and warning them about the health dangers of foods and drinks that are high in sugar, salt, or fat, such as cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes, and even cancer.
A desire amongst consumers to put fewer harmful traditional ingredients into their body is expected to boost sales of dietary and free from products moving forward. Gluten free, which is a type of dietary and free from claim, is therefore expected to see the largest incremental growth in staple foods over 2022-2027, with retail sales expanding by CLP207.
Consumers will increasingly be concerned to have the right diet to keep themselves healthy. Many will also look to control their weight, given the high number of people with a diagnosis of obese or overweight in the country.
