Moderate turning to slow growth is expected in footwear in retail volume and value (constant 2023 prices) terms as the forecast period progresses. The economic recovery is predicted to take longer than anticipated in Austria, dragging the overcoming of the challenges facing footwear into the forecast period.
Sustainability is set to become more of a focus over the forecast period, as consumers become more conscious of the impact their purchasing decisions can have on the environment. Footwear consumers will continue to evaluate brand owners that act sustainably in their operations and defend fair trade.
The trend towards more casual footwear is predicted to continue during the forecast period, as it becomes increasingly acceptable to wear trainers or trainer-like shoes, not only during leisure time, but also in the workplace and even for special occasions. In line with this trend, manufacturers of footwear are expected to launch new product lines with a greater focus on comfort.
