Sales of children's footwear in Hungary have long benefited from the general preference among local parents to prioritise their children’s needs when allocating resources, especially when it comes to apparel and footwear. The motivation to spend more on the types of footwear that their children need, or even just those that they covet and desire, is usually driven by factors such as the need to replace footwear often as children’s feet grow, as well as the culture of lavishing gifts upon children and the desire to ensure that children are wearing footwear that denotes their social status effectively.
The popularity of buying footwear online is expected to continue building among the population of Hungary over the forecast period as more local people overcome their reluctance to risk buying footwear online on the basis that they want to try shoes for fit and comfort on before committing to a purchase. This is a reflection of the greater convenience and value for money that e-commerce represents, characteristics that are set to become even more appealing at a time when the rising cost of living and the accelerating pace of life in Hungarian cities has made e-commerce a highly attractive option.
The forecast period is set to see a huge increase in consumer demand for footwear that conform to the core tenets of the sustainability trend and in response the leading brand owners are set to make major changes to their product portfolios to accommodate rising demand for such items. This is set to result in a significant transformation of the category, with rising demand for footwear with superior sustainability credentials set to continue being fuelled by growing consumer awareness of the environmental and sustainability impact of their consumer choices.
