The booming café culture, as covered in trends, will continue to support demand in baked goods – especially in the case of product innovation in line with the Instagram-worthy image of these cafés. Bread, however, has limited room for creativity overall, presenting a challenge for players to develop novelty products.
Ongoing health and wellness trends are another key area in which players in baked goods can find innovation opportunities. We are already seeing this to an extent, with whole grain and seed bread from Cubic, and royal wholewheat bread from Farmhouse.
President Bakery is expected to maintain its lead with its Farmhouse brand, thanks to its consistent efforts in marketing and innovation. Now, technological advancements in the “Metaverse” are being utilised as a further opportunity to reach now consumers – particularly so regarding younger, tech-savvy consumers, such as teenagers, who enjoy embracing such technology.

Baked Goods
This is the aggregation of bread, pastries, dessert mixes, frozen baked goods and cakes. Note: Baked goods from in-store bakeries are classified under unpackaged/artisanal, not packaged/industrial. While they may be finished on-site, they are often prepared, then frozen or par-baked, at other locations. Such production models are very important for supermarket in-store bakeries, which have in the past been used to drive traffic and fill stores with appetising aromas, but for which the labour resources required to run a full-service scratch bakery are not always available.
