A number of factors are expected to drive growth for home furnishings in Turkey in value terms at constant 2022 prices from 2023 onwards. Inflation is expected to be reined in to some extent; elections in 2023 will likely see increased government spending on consumer credit facilities, increasing purchasing power; and the same is likely to have a positive impact on mortgage rates, which will drive new home ownership once again over the forecast period.
The marriage season (from May to August) is an important driver of sales in home furnishings in Turkey. However, during the pandemic many marriages had to be put off due to lockdowns and restrictions.
Growth in the share of distribution accounted for by retail e-commerce slowed considerably in 2022, after growing dynamically during the pandemic. The pandemic forced consumers to venture into online shopping, but the channel’s share is not expected to grow significantly over the forecast period, largely because many Turkish consumers do not trust online channels.
