With economic recovery and a growing urban and young adult population, RTDs is expected to rebound to robust total volume growth over the forecast period. Greater affordability will drive demand, particularly from younger consumers of legal drinking age, who are key consumers of RTDs, but are generally on lower incomes.
RTDs are often preferred by female consumers, so a rise in the number of women in professional employment is expected to help boost demand for the category in the forecast period. Female consumers and younger consumers of legal drinking age prefer flavoured alcoholic drinks due to their sweet taste.
Strong competitive activity is also expected to boost the performance of RTDs over the forecast period. The category has traditionally been dominated by Guinness Nigeria Plc, whose stable of brands, including Orijin, Smirnoff Ice, and Snapp, has succeeded through advertising and strong distribution.

RTD stands for ‘ready-to-drink’. Other terms which may be used for these products are FABs, alcopops and premixes. The RTDs sector is the aggregation of malt-, wine-, spirit- and other types of premixed drinks. These drinks usually have an alcohol content of around 5% but this can reach as high as 10% ABV. Premixes containing a high percentage of alcohol of around 15%+ combined with juice or any other soft drink are included here. RTDs are usually marketed as products to be drunk neat, with ice, or as a cocktail ingredient. Fruit-flavoured, vodka-based spirits with an alcohol content of between 16-21% are classified here. Examples: Alizé, Ursus Roter, Berentzen Fruchtige, Kleiner Feigling.See All of Our Definitions
