The launch of Jinro Tok Tok (Muihua Sdn Bhd) is anticipated to rejuvenate sales of wine-based RTDs over the forecast period. The interest and demand shown in this brand should support the expansion of distribution to more grocery retailers (eg premium supermarkets Ben’s Independent and Village Grocer), food/drink/tobacco specialists and foodservice channels (bars, independent fast food etc).
Spirit-based RTDs is likely to look to compete with manufacturers of spirits (ad-mix spirits) that offer extensive ranges of ad-mix spirits (ad-mix whisky, ad-mix brandy, ad-mix gin and more). This is especially true within the foodservice channel with operators often preferring to purchase ad-mix spirits to create cocktails and other signature alcoholic drinks.
Suntory Holdings Ltd, which offers the Horoyoi brand, is likely to switch its focus to spirits (Japanese whisky) and beer while reducing its investment in spirit-based RTDs. The reasons for this are that foodservice operators generally prefer to purchase spirits while end consumers typically prefer beer for at home consumption.

RTD stands for ‘ready-to-drink’. Other terms which may be used for these products are FABs, alcopops and premixes. The RTDs sector is the aggregation of malt-, wine-, spirit- and other types of premixed drinks. These drinks usually have an alcohol content of around 5% but this can reach as high as 10% ABV. Premixes containing a high percentage of alcohol of around 15%+ combined with juice or any other soft drink are included here. RTDs are usually marketed as products to be drunk neat, with ice, or as a cocktail ingredient. Fruit-flavoured, vodka-based spirits with an alcohol content of between 16-21% are classified here. Examples: Alizé, Ursus Roter, Berentzen Fruchtige, Kleiner Feigling.See All of Our Definitions
