RTDs, driven in particular by spirit-based RTDs focused on pisco, is set to record increasing growth momentum over the forecast period. However, there is also likely to be stronger participation of other spirit-based RTDs, including those based on gin or rum.
One of the key drivers of success for RTDs in most countries is the rise of mixology, and although this trend in Chile remains mostly restricted to the on-trade channel, it offers potential for at-home consumption in the coming years. Traditionally, Chileans like to meet and socialise in bars and clubs, but the pandemic highlighted the attraction of at-home and smaller gatherings, with younger generations in particular becoming more appreciative of this trend.
While RTDs in Chile is expected to record a positive performance over the forecast period, this will be driven by spirit-based RTDs, with wine-based options continuing to lose popularity in the country. While spirit-based RTDs, supported by the popularity of pisco, are well accepted in Chile, demand for wine-based varieties is weak, and mainly driven by the traditional Manquehuito, in a segment full of small local brands which have been attempting to improve the image of wine among younger adults without significant success.

RTDs
RTD stands for ‘ready-to-drink’. Other terms which may be used for these products are FABs, alcopops and premixes. The RTDs sector is the aggregation of malt-, wine-, spirit- and other types of premixed drinks. These drinks usually have an alcohol content of around 5% but this can reach as high as 10% ABV. Premixes containing a high percentage of alcohol of around 15%+ combined with juice or any other soft drink are included here. RTDs are usually marketed as products to be drunk neat, with ice, or as a cocktail ingredient. Fruit-flavoured, vodka-based spirits with an alcohol content of between 16-21% are classified here. Examples: Alizé, Ursus Roter, Berentzen Fruchtige, Kleiner Feigling.
