The Malaysian government has expressed openness to private partnerships aimed at addressing the delays in the deployment of vending machines under the People's Income Initiative (IPR), which was caused by intricate regulations. Despite the challenges, the initiative has proven successful, with B40 entrepreneurs who participate in the programme generating an average net income ranging from MYR3,000 to MYR5,000 per month.
Vending in Malaysia has enjoyed consistent growth in recent years, propelled by shifts in consumer preferences and rising demand for convenient shopping solutions. As a result, there is mounting interest in expanding the utilisation of vending machines, whether as sales channels, promotional tools, or sustainability devices (via reverse vending machines).
KLEAN, a technology platform that builds vending machines to promote recycling, is set to focus on scaling its operations in 2024, aiming to reach approximately 65 machines by the year's end, with a more long-term target of 100. This expanded network of vending machines is integral to KLEAN's strategy, not only for achieving scale but also for showcasing the out-of-home aspect of its business, which involves advertisements on the sides of the machines.
