During the forecast period, vending in Belgium will see a return to positive growth in current value terms. This will be supported by the return to busy out-of-home lifestyles, which will give rise to an increase in foot traffic in locations with a high prevalence of vending machines.
The broadening of the vending offer to include non-grocery items, such as electronics or health and beauty products, is likely to have a positive impact on sales during the forecast period. Indeed, as of 2023, non-grocery offerings remained very limited.
Sustainability, technological innovation (interactivity, digital interfaces, remote paying, online ordering) are at the core of innovation for vending over the forecast period. There is indeed strong potential for the category to grow, through investment from both retailers and manufacturers, especially from the food and drinks side.
The development of vending over the forecast period will be linked to technological innovation, which will allow for a more customer-friendly interaction. As such, smart vending machines, with digital interfaces and contactless payment options, are likely to be at the forefront of this trend, moving forward.
