Vending in Australia is predicted to record stable value growth over the forecast period, although at constant 2023 prices, the channel will struggle to fully recover to pre-pandemic levels by 2028 due to the severe impact of lockdowns on mobility in 2020. Future growth is expected to be driven by innovative vending machine products beyond beverages and snacks, the presence of which can already be seen throughout Australia.
With vending machines returning to growth following the easing of lockdown measures, the conversation once again returned to the topic of sustainability. Consumers’ attitudes towards sustainability have evolved over the past decade, with an increasing number of Australians concerned about their carbon footprint as well as the actions taken by corporations to reduce their carbon emissions and show dedication to combatting climate change.
There is a case to be made for the distribution of medical products through vending machines, expanding their reach and adding another level of convenience for consumers who need OTC medication. While some basic OTC medication such as acetaminophen would be among the top of the list to benefit from this arrangement, it does not need to be as limited.
