As a form of automated retail associated with convenience, the vending channel is set to grow in both current value terms and in value terms at constant 2023 prices in the US over the forecast period. Recent years have seen advances in contactless technology.
Smart vending technology is contributing to growth in the channel by vastly improving vending machine functionality. Smart vending machines allow users to log into an account via face recognition, a QR code, or a near field communication (NFC)-enabled device.
Vending machines have an association with nostalgia and fun, that can be useful to a brand. Beauty retailer Benefit Cosmetics has for many years utilised vending machines, in the shape of a truck coloured in the brand’s trademark pink, to sell its colour cosmetics at airports.
