Sports nutrition is poised to record strong growth in volume and current value terms throughout the forecast period. Demand will continue to be buoyed by increasing participation in sports and fitness activities in Morocco, particularly in more strenuous forms of physical exercise such as weightlifting, cross fit training and long-distance running.
As interest in sports nutrition continues to rise in Morocco, the category is likely to attract greater regulatory scrutiny over the forecast period. Similar to the case with dietary supplements, it is expected the government will move to update the laws governing the sale and marketing of these products in order to enhance consumer protection, discourage false or misleading claims and promote fairer competition.
The competitive landscape in sports nutrition looks set to remain highly consolidated over the forecast period, with the dominance of multinationals unlikely to be challenged. That said, it is expected strong growth prospects and state supports for local manufacturers will encourage the entry of more domestic companies, which should make the category more accessible in terms of pricing.

Sports Nutrition
These nutritional products improve physical endurance, increasing muscle growth/development/mass, or speeding recovery after exercise. Sports nutrition is targeted at serious athletes and gym-goers, and their principal purpose is to build muscle and to boost energy. Sports Nutrition tracks two types of products: Protein and Non-Protein. Sports protein include bars, powder and ready-to-drink (RTD) offerings. Sports Non-Protein include products that do not have protein as its core ingredient. They can be used to repair muscle or as energy/endurance booster. Note: Mainstream sports nutrition products such as sports drinks (e.g. Gatorade) or energy drinks (e.g. Red Bull) are not included here. Energy and sports drinks are tracked in the Soft Drinks system.
